i'm coming into my 10th season with sandra at our amazing les fleurs. maybe i'm just feeling super nostalgic, but i've been reflecting back on so many amazing couples i've met and weddings we've designed that i thought i'd share how they make me feel. so here's a fairly sappy (and insanely truthful) post about one of my all time favorite weddings (and duo for which the wedding is for!)
when i first started working with flowers and designing weddings i don't know if someone told me (the then 19 year old me) one day i would meet families like this, create arrangements for days so meaningful and walk away with such a full heart, that i would have known this was what they were talking about.
when i first met kayla & matt (and their mommas... and bridg) it was an energetic, fun, inspirational meeting. full of white blooms, heirloom vessels and chatter about a labor day weekend seaside wedding. i was excited and elated when they chose les fleurs to do their flowers. what unfolded from there, truly was fun. and that's what it should be about, shouldn't it?
i loved every meeting, email and phone call we traded over the next 9 months working up to k&m's big day. when flowers arrive at the shop we have a process. we cut and condition the blooms, design arrangements and setup for the delivery... this is just one of the many layer that go into wedding day delivery. i still remember being so over the moon when k's flowers came in... the dahlia's were so perfect, the foliage was foraged at the most right time, the tiny blooms of the hellebores had just started to open. i was so excited to start creating the arrangements. saturday morning we arrived at the shop super early for our load up and travels to maine. i was so excited to delivery these arrangements... on the MOST picturesque september day to a family i had grown to truly adore. it's these weddings that i love the most. we were creating the most special day in k&m's life at k's family maine home... it felt like we were just headed up for the long weekend, it never felt like work. the family was busy around the house doing house things, we enjoyed setting up in their yard, chatting with beach go-er's walking down shore drive. the morning was magical... and it wasn't MY wedding day!!
it never felt like a job, this wedding (like so many we're lucky enough to work on) came so natural to us, the moment i will always remember was when i first saw beth, kayla's mom. i walked into their home carry k's bouquet and she started to cry... we went upstairs and the crying continued, except it was now kayla and me! i reflect back on this... i thought to myself i just do flowers, i make bouquets and centerpieces... i never knew how fulfilling flowers could be. thank you to the couples who chose les fleurs over the past 26 years, to all the couples i've met and who chose to work with me over the last 10... it makes my job anything but a job. it's an amazing way to spend my days. my team at the shop... your amazing. and without further adieu...
i adore you 2 to pieces!!! cheers to you both, a happy life and memories you'll cherish forever.
