les fleurs & the susan g. komen foundation
in honor of momma's this mother's day
...the story behind the shop...
les fleurs first opened it's doors in 1989... sandra and her mom madonna were going to run the shop together and design like the paris florists were at the time. for those who don't know the story behind our special little shop, here it is.
sandra grew up in her mother's family business in worcester, flower's by donna... helping condition blooms and deliver weddings, as a teen she was a gifted ice skater and traveled to europe with the ice capades. during her time in paris she would visit the floral boutiques and share everything the parisian florists were doing with her mom back home. there was a lovely shop named les fleurs on the corner from her apartment. the shop was beautiful, the flowers were perfect and the designers buzzed about in black linen aprons creating romantic and whimsical arrangements. sandra and her mom dreamed of opening their very own "les fleurs" together when she returned to the states. the idea of owning a shop together was just the hope they needed.
at 40 years old madonna was diagnosed with breast cancer, a battle she fought for 10 long years. while sandra was skating in france, her mom became very sick again and she needed to come home immediately. with strong hopes for a recovery, the ladies planned to open and operate les fleurs out of sandra's home base, andover. sandra's mom was never able to see the shop, this store has been a tribute to madonna ceppi. she lost her battle in february of 1989. all the designer's, weddings we've created, awards and triumphs have always been in her honor. she would be so proud to see "their" les fleurs as it is today, 27 years later sandra still shares the trade she learnt from her mom with all who she meets. her love of people and flowers comes from the love her mom shared with her.
in honor of mother's day and madonna we wanted to give back to the research foundations who, we hope will one day find a cure, so we don't continue to loose amazing people to this terrible disease any more. during the week of mother's day, may 3-7 we'll be giving a portion of all store proceeds to the susan g. komen foundation, please come in and shop big... it's going to such a good cause.
