we always feel so honored when client's refer les fleurs to friends and family for wedding flowers or function arrangements... today's posts stunning bride makes the THIRD, yes 3rd amazing daughter from a client's family to work closely with the designer's at les fleurs to create arrangements for her wedding!! we've enjoyed working with mary (mom) for her girls weddings and are soo excited to show off christina's august wedding flowers.

christina's bridal bouquet was soft and creamy filled with white astilbe, lace cap hydrangea, seeded eucalyptus, cymbidium orchids, juliet garden roses, vendela and turtle roses. oatmeal satin tails draped from underneath the bouquet's blooms. just before we delivered christina's bouquet we attached a beautiful blush pink bow from a special member of the family's wedding, such a lovely touch

I LOVE THIS PICTURE!!!!! (you'll note in this post i LOVE many of the images) add this pose to the list of "wedding day photo must haves". (this is one of those pictures for me (though ry and i are already married, but for all you engaged and to-be marrieds, add this to the list)).
a little advise, don't give your photographer instructions... you choose them for their eye and ability to know the right moments, but... there's no harm in a little direction if there's a picture you really want ;o)

against the bridal party's rich blue of their dresses, jewel tone blooms felt rich without competing. heart shaped potato vine in black trailed though the bouquets and made it's way into the centerpieces. fuchsia & purple dahlia's mixed amongst pink celosia with hot princess, black bacara and waikiki roses finished with hot pink ribbon

at the lanam club, guest's are served dinner under the tent, followed by dancing in the house. a friend of mary had these great copper pedestals we used for the tall centerpieces... covered in moss and a tangling of greenery

under the tent guest's sat amongst table's with a mix of tall and low style arrangements. footed copper compotes were filled lush summer blooms.
dahlias, hydrangea, spray roses, astilbe, celosia, amaranthus, ivy, jasmin, sedum, seeded eucalyptus, potato vine, pepper berries... that was a speed round of what's in this arrangement ;o)

jeanne and john, i loved spending your special day with you and your amazing families! now everyone get's a little peak at your love story! xo -k.
it's such a special moment in one's life when they find their "forever". in this industry we hear so many stories about how couples meet, their journey and then to top it all off... we get to have a little part in creating their wedding day. for some us, we even get to spend the day with them!! jeanne and john asked me to be their day-of coordinator and together we created a seamless timeline and day of events that was so perfect, with the amazing group of wedding vendors apart of the day it was a slam dunk. they are both so blessed to have such amazing friends and family!
so here's my cute story for why you 2 ARE PERFECT!!!! to spend the rest of your lives together! jeanne and john are both patient and understanding of one another which is very important in every relationship (i sound like dr. phil... this isn't a relationship lesson, i promise, hehe)
(don't kill me for sharing this, i love you guys!!) so... we arrive at j&j's for their rehearsal dinner it's a beautiful friday evening in june and holy hot! we were in for a good weekend... upon our arrival our amazing couple had set-up a tent, placed all the guest tables and chairs around their perfectly manicured yard, were hosting many of the bride's family for the weekend (remember this is the night before their big day) all to decided it was a PERFECT time to paint the french door's leading to the yard... yes i said paint. MY MOST FAVORITE GROOM MOMENT EVER... i walk into their home to see john painting the french doors leading to the yard about an hour before guest's arrived. you 2 are amazing!

with valentine's day only a few weeks away,

#1.
choose and prepare your flowers. cut blooms about 2"-3" from the base of the flower for enough stem to play with (i used a whole bunch of standard carnations for this, 25 stems)

| i choose to work with carnations because of their lacy petals and hardiness to the oasis form. a bloom with a strong stem is super important! |
#2.
while preparing your blooms, soak oasis heart form in cold water for 10 minutes
#3.
place carnations into your form, keeping your heart shape. it's best to begin at the 2 top points on the heart and create your V at the bottom. filling the center, finishing the outside.
my oasis heart form was approx. 4 1/2" before adding blooms, it's more than doubled in size after all the flowers have been added.

maine thanksgiving 2012
my family spends the weekend before thanksgiving in maine to celebrate our own thanksgiving with some extended family and new friends. we hike, play games, cook... eat & drink, laugh, play with flowers and so much more. ryan, luka and i stay with my "floral engineer" cousin heather (who makes an appearance in the shop designing on busy weekends and holiday's) took me took my first farmer's market, (to read the original post) and her little family... safe to say, my favorite place ever!
i think most of us can say they have their own "little slice of heaven on earth". for some it's paris or a tropical beach somewhere. maybe it's horseback riding in the mountains through a freshly fallen snow... for me, it's coastal maine (preferably in the fall). we are a bit spoiled and have family along the coast in maine we have the chance to travel and stay with often. this trip we our family took us to this great trail on some conservation land owned and maintained by bowdoin college in brunswick, maine. it was full of stunning moss covered rocks, hemlock, crazy cool bark, seaweed and more!! i took soooo many pictures of all the fabulous things in nature (this city mouse, in the country) i'd love to use in arrangements or in table scapes at the shop.
nothing wakes you up after a thanksgiving meal like a hike along the ocean... uphill... in november... in maine :o)
i'd love to grow moss along our stone wall and pathway at the house like these ones here. this is all naturally grown in the woods... i was green with envy (little quip) when we came across this wall!
other mosses and lichen were all over the trees, rocks and ground throughout our hike.
the sweetest little vine was growing through the moss... it looked alot like peperomia plant, but we were unsure of the species.

sometimes we'll come across flowers, accents and plants that we don't know to make heads or tails of. it's fun because through the discovery of the new item's we add something special and unique to our repertoire.

and back to our nature hike... if i could be so bold to say, everyone should find somewhere local to them, doesn't have to be along the water to get outside (even in the winter) and get some good hearty exercise and fresh air. there are snow shoe trails all over our area for the winter months when we're snowed off the hiking trails. bundle up and get outside! enjoy all the beauty nature provides to us!

a few years back over our thanksgiving maine weekend, on one of our walks i discovered these little hemlock pine cones. they are approx. 1.5"-2" and about the cutest pine cone's i'd ever seen. so my wheels started turning and before you knew it i had my mom, aunt, 2 cousins, sister and husband collecting the fallen hemlock pine cones into bags for me to make wreath's with. we collected hundreds and hundreds of pine cones... no one let's me forget that great idea. when we came across these little guys everyone let me take the picture, by the time i stood back up my family was wayy ahead... as if they knew if they stuck around we'd be repeating the same activity.
sooooo... INSTEAD of collecting hemlock pine cones this year, i found a new forest must-have. beech tree leaves. i saw this photo on pinterest of place cards made from dried leaves and thought we'd do the same for our thanksgiving table. i didn't need hundreds of leaves (unlike my pine cone project), but i still spent my dear sweet time picking out one's that were just right.
this is a really cool idea for any fall wedding couples looking for a natural and different idea for escort cards.
collect and flat dry the leaves, have an amazing calligrapher write all your guests names and table assignments on them in a contrasting color.
